Bargain Destinations for 2017

As everyone knows, travel can be expensive. But some travel is more expensive – often way more expensive – than others. Forbes suggests 30 inexpensive destinations for 2017:

Mazatlan, Mexico. A favorable exchange rate makes travel to Mexico in general a bargain. But Mazatlan (photo) is even less costly than the better-known resort areas. And it offers tons of dining options and abundant culture.

South Africa. American travelers also benefit from the exchange rate here. And prices are even lower during their low season, which is our summer.

San Juan, Puerto Rico. You don’t need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico, and you also don’t need a ton of money. San Juan is very affordable, especially from the end of April through mid-December, and it is also full of old world charm.

Chile. From Santiago to lesser-known locales, Chile offers great travel value. And of course there is that world-class wine.

Crete. American travelers benefit from a strong exchange rate against the euro. In addition, economic difficulties in Greece make this a great time to take advantage of the low prices, gorgeous scenery and delicious food in Crete.

Morocco. Relatively inexpensive flights make this one of the least costly African nations to visit. And the food is one of the main reasons to make the trip.

Belize. This Caribbean nation has something for everyone: history, culture, adventure travel and delicious food. And it is all available at a budget price.

Vietnam. Both hotels and dining are budget-friendly, and there are lots of sites to see and adventures to have.

Costa Rica. This Central American country is one of the most biodiverse in the world. And low prices make it exceptionally accessible right now.

Portugal. Much more affordable than most of Western Europe, Portugal is beautiful, delicious and fun.

Other inexpensive destinations include:

In Central and South America and the Caribbean: Ecuador; Guatemala; Bonaire and Curaçao; San Luis Potosí, Mexico; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Haiti; and Cusco, Peru.

In Europe: Barcelona, Spain; Greece; Albania; Bulgaria; and Georgia.

In Asia and Africa: Cambodia; Bali; Indonesia; and Mozambique.

In the U.S. and Canada: Las Vegas, Nev.; Santa Catalina Island, Calif.; Dallas; and Quebec City.
