'Tis the Season for Giving

This time of year can become very hectic, and that in turn can make us all lose sight of the true meaning of the season. At The Bensman Group, we urge everyone to slow down just a little, take some time for yourself and think about the things that really matter.

For many people during the holidays, getting into the spirit includes spending some time helping others. On Dec. 4, about 20 Bensman employees volunteered at the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) distribution center in Park City, Ill., helping to sort food destined for the shelves of food pantries throughout northern Illinois.

The Bensman team processed 9,000 pounds of product, sorting dry goods donated by General Mills and seasonal products donated by Walgreens. This is the seventh year that Bensman employees have volunteered as a group at the food bank. It is a chance for us as an organization to do something for others, and it allows us to work as a team toward a common goal

The Northern Illinois Food Bank and its network of 800 food pantries serve nearly 600,000 people in a 13-county area. In 2014, it provided the equivalent of 50 million meals. The group has set a goal of providing 75 million meals annually by 2020 – enough to meet all of the need in its service area.

There are many different ways to help the less fortunate in this giving season, ranging from organized activities to random acts of kindness. However you choose to celebrate this most special of times, we at Bensman wish you and yours all the joy and blessings of the season, and a happy and healthy new year!
