Be Ready for Spring Storms
In many parts of the country, spring brings an increased chance of violent weather. To help protect your loved ones and your home, start by keeping an eye on the forecast. If storms are expected, move outdoor items that could blow around into a garage or shed. Put your car in the garage.
Know how the severe weather alert works in your area, and consider setting an alert on your cell phone. Know where to go in case of severe weather. Usually you want to be in an interior room on the lower level. Stay away from windows. Make sure your cell phone is charged and you have flashlights or battery-powered lanterns available.
Don't drive in severe weather unless it is absolutely essential. Never drive through flooded streets unless you are certain that the water is no more than a few inches deep.
You should have a plan in place for contacting family and friends after a storm to make sure everyone is OK. Once the danger is passed, you can go out and assess the damage, if any. If your property has sustained damage, give us a call. We are always happy to discuss your insurance coverage -- before or after you need it.
