A Special Holiday Tradition
On Friday November 7, 22 members of the Bensman team went to the Northern Illinois Food Bank in Park City, Ill., to sort and pack food donations for delivery to food distribution networks across northern Illinois. This is the sixth year that we have visited the food bank. It is our way of celebrating the true meaning of the holidays by giving back to the community and helping those who are less fortunate.
At the food bank, we repacked over 100,000 granola bars into 5-pound boxes for delivery to the food bank's partners. We also spent time verifying that donated pastry and bread items were fresh and repacking those into larger boxes.
The Northern Illinois Food Bank gathers food donations from grocery stores, corporations, foundations and individuals and distributes them to more than 600 network partners, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and feeding programs across 13 counties in northern Illinois. They feed about 60,000 people a week. If you are interested in learning more about the food bank or in volunteering there, please visit their website at solvehungertoday.org.
