Insurance for Your College Student, Graduate

If you had a high school or college graduation this spring, congratulations to you and your graduate. Before the summer gets much further along, though, give us a call to discuss your graduate's insurance needs.

For students who are still in college, most likely they will be able to piggyback on your auto and homeowners insurance for coverage for their car and belongings. This generally is true even if they live on campus during the summer or if the car they drive is registered in their name.

For college graduates, though, it can be a little more confusing. Graduates who are fully self-supporting usually are responsible for their own insurance coverages. But graduates who are less than fully self-supporting -- who are going on to graduate school or who are still looking for a job, for example -- may still be covered under your insurance. If you pay a significant amount of the expenses of your student, you probably would be considered liable if, for example, your student caused an accident.

The best approach is to call us to discuss your specific situation. You can contact us about this or any other insurance matter at 847-572-0820 or
