Check the Coverage on Fine Wines

In this season of hospitality, many of us will be enjoying a glass of holiday wine; for wine collectors, that wine might come from their personal cellar. (See article below on wine collecting.)

If you are a wine collector, we want your only losses to be the bottles you drink. Too often, wine collections are lost through a variety of perils, such as theft, temperature control malfunctions, flood or breakage. We want to help make sure that you will be covered if this happens to you.

The bad news is that your homeowner’s policy probably will not provide adequate coverage for a loss to your wine collection. In fact, your wine might be specifically excluded from your homeowner’s coverage.

The good news, though, is that it is relatively easy to put a value on your collection. Auction houses publish the results of their sales, and Web sites track the value of collectible wines. And, once you have determined the value of your wine investment, there are a number of insurance options to help you protect that investment.

For more information on coverage for your fine-wine collection, or for help with any insurance question, please give us a call at 847-572-0800 or email me at
